I went through some of my files today and this was taken in 2003 with my old Olympus 10x point and shoot. Don't know the settings but it was probably full auto.
Cropped a little from the original and straightened. Minor PS work.
Yes we were really close! This was a wonderful trip to northern BC. We flew to Prince Rupert and then took a float plane to the interior to a place called the Khutzeymateen Valley, a refuge put in place by the native peoples and the WWF. It was in May and the bears had just come out of hibernation and were very hungry! They ate a lot of sedge grass. We stayed on a large boat and then on to a zodiac and followed them on land sometimes for as long as a couple of hours. The guide had been doing this for about 17 years and always put himself first between the bears and the group. If anyone went it would be him first:)!
A memorable trip, and hadn't sunk my fortune into Canon equipment yet!

Was actually very foggy Cheryl, had to do curves on it to bring out the colours. And shot in sRGB.

Don't know the conversion on a 10x P & S Gus, fully extended anyways. Would that make it about 380mm? Probably around 25 feet.

Was it foggy enough so that you could accentuate it and make it a huge bear in the fog image?

I don't think so Cheryl, this was pretty much full frame, and the fog just made it look really flat.

    Hi Jackie,
It sounds like a wonderful trip and I like what I might call an "illustration" look to it.
