The debris makes it look like this little fella is surveying the scene after a tornado has gone by. Image could go darker and sharper, and wish for better head angle. Check out those ostrich legs!!

Is the debris from the "tornado" too distracting? Would you sharpen the entire image? Darken entire image?
I wish PS could change head angles.....

Well, for me personally yes the debris is distracting but when I use it with the tornado analogy it does not seem as bad :-) Here is a quick and dirty job in lightening (using levels) and sharpening your image (all of it here, but I would suggest only on the killdeer). The fine detail is not there...is this a big crop? I also added a bit of magenta and yellow to the image.

25 minutes in PS for a total make-over... A little funky in spots. Mostly Patch Tool and QM... It's all in Digital Basics and Robert O'Toole's APTATS.

The reposts are a major improvement. In Artie's I would remove the two dark spots at the top. Too bad the little guy is angled away from you.

Hi Bee, YAW. In my repost I sharpened only the bird (with a QM). The two reposts offer a great opportunity to see the difference between sharpening the bird only vs. sharpening the entire image.

    Hello everyone,
I want to thank you all for your editing and the time it took you to do so. I took all your suggestions and edited my original post with PS6 (can't yet afford the CS yet). I learned the Quick Mask tool and learned more about using the Lasso tool. I did not use any of the editing done already by you Artie or Daniel.
