Nikon D70s 70-200VR @ 90 1/1250 f/9.0 ISO 200 -3EV
This was taken six months ago at a local park. Nothing has been done to the image, it is as it came out of the camera. Don't know why my EV setting is -3, but that is what the info shows. The water seems to be grainy -- why? I like the image and would appreciate all the criticism I can get . . .
i think the grain may come from being a little overexposed? some NR would definitely help. in this situation i may have used sunny f/16. looks like you had a lot of light and that setting would have definitely helped. as far as -3EV, there is an explanation as to why it was like that but i'm not smart enough to put it into words right now!!
Hi Wendell Love the title !! Those guys don't ever take no for an answer !!!!
I think the exposure is good and glad the camera was set to - 1/3 even would have blown some whites, the bottom of the duck is at the edge but has detail. Downloaded and checked and its just a little over. Noise would be coming more from under exposure but the water doesn't seem like it has a lot. I do see debris. Did a curves adjustment only
Hi Harold and Alfred: I was wrong to say that "Nothing has been done to the image." I re-checked the image in Lightroom and see that I had made some corrections (perhaps exposure and brightness?) to the image. The EV I used is correct as noted (-3, not -1/3); I know because I took other photos at the same time and they were very, very dark, as this one must have been before I made the corrections that I had forgotten about. Well, I blew it here with my "Nothing has been done" remark. Sorry about that; it was unintentional. And, of course, it does make criticism very difficult to say the least . . .
I like the composition Wendell,
Mr. Forns took care of all the techs. good show...looking forward to your next one. I'm very partial to these types of images and captures; where you capture the subject totally engaged in his or hers environment...well done...
