Sorry, that should have been 1/200 sec. The birds arrived earlier this year, by almost two months

I like the eye contact and the busy BG looks actually interesting. I might give it a bit more room at the bottom in order not to clip the long feathers. Keep them coming!

    Hi William,

I will be there this Saturday AM. I light the highlights in the BG. I have to agree with Axel about having more room at the bottom.

Hi William, bird looks great and bakground helps and does not distract. I think I met you early Tuesday when the wife and I were at the Rookery. I always enjot meeting new people and enjoyed out outing greatly. I hope you were the one I am referring to.

Wonderful head angle and use of the spot-lighting. I like how the shaded grey stuff at the bottom mimics the grays of the bird.

I looked at the original and it would be difficult to add more at the bottom, but thanks for commenting

Thanks Artie, this shot was almost not takan, I noticed that the bird was standing at the edge of the pond and the lighting did not seem anything special, so I was very pleased to catch the head lit up. The sun was just coming up over the trees to the rear.

Hello Axel, thank you for looking at my image. I have noticed of course that most posts on the forum have next to nothing in the back ground. But at the Rookery for most of the time, the birds are in a heavily thicketed surrounding making it imposssible to isolate in the way you mention. I will certainly keep your advice in mind when shooting there again. What I liked personally about my image was the color, there was very little processing involved. The lighting was natural.

Hi Bill, When the birds are on the near shore as this one was, there are some spots where you can get a clean BKGR, water for example. When they are on the island, I try to work the birds along the top of the colony so that I can get a distant BKGR.... Food for thought.
