    Default D200 meter trouble

Anyone had any trouble with the meter on their D200? Mine started acting erratic late the other night, I was inside my house shooting and took a break for an hour or so and then came back to it. EXACT same lighting conditions, settings, etc. and the exposures that were spot on straight off the camera one hour prior were several stops underexposed. Messed with it for a little while, then decided to give it a rest.

Went out this morning in the yard to shoot some, and the same thing started happening. I tried all of the metering modes (spot, center weighted, and matrix) and the same problem kept showing up. I reset every menu, took the batteries out of the camera, and still the same results. I was using my remote release, and took two shots back to back at f/8 and the shutter speed on the first one was 1/40 s, and the second one was 1/160 s. Back to back shutter releases, nothing at all changed. I'm thinking its headed to see NIkon here in the next couple of days, just wanted to see if anyone else has had problems like this. I can't think of anything else it could be than a faulty meter (I know, I know, its a Nikon..).....Thanks for any insight y'all could provide.

Sounds like exactly the same problem I had with my D2X. Different cameras, I know, but it sounds like your meter is toast to me.

I don't know how the fix worked on mine, as it was lost in the mail on the way to get serviced.

Did auto bracketing get turned on somehow and is the first image close to being the correct exposure.

I would also check the forums to see if any others have the same problem and if there was a recall from Nikon like there waqs for the batteries
Meter system should not fail that fast and the camera is not that old

Thanks for the input folks. The first shot was not close to a good exposure, and this was with +2/3 stop compensation trying to get there. I checked and bracketing was not on, and I also reset everything with no luck.

I'm going to call Nikon tonight or tomorrow morning and see what they say....I have a feeling replacing a meter is NOT going to be cheap...

    Jason,
Did you check it with a different lens?

James, I updated the firmware last night after talking to Nikon and am going to try to shoot it some more this weekend with another lens. I shot it with another lens yesterday, but only for a few frames. Thanks again for the input.
