Again very overcast weather. This barbet had been feeding close by and came away with it's spoils to sit on a branch right next to the window.

Exp. time: 1/200sec (Needed more ss to freeze his movements but couldn't get it without upping the iso?)

Lovely colours, Jeni - beautiful bird. Did you crop out the rest, or only frame the head? BG amazingly uncluttered for a garden scene. I like the tongue, and the prize in the mouth - The barbet looks justifiably pleased with himself!

I drove up the Sani Pass to Lesotho in my landrover in 1969 - is it still a dirt road? Spent 2 years in RSA and Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) - had wonderful fun.

Hi Robert, thanks for viewing. I couldn't get the whole body in so had to crop a small bit away. Bg is untouched. I had mainly mountain (green grass) behind the branch it was on and as mentioned, it was very overcast so quite a bit of haze too..
Sani is still dirt but plans are underfoot to tar. However, there is mass protest from locals and environmentalists - must say I agree with them. It will lose all it's charm and become another commercialized money-making racket.

Yip, I love Africa - it's the best!!!:)

Just wish the security factors and governments could get sorted out.

Pretty colours on your bird Jeni, like the way you have framed it too.

Just a quick note. I am able to boast the ISO on my 40D up to 640 without any terrible increase in noise. I'll bet it would go a tad higher even. Ought to experiment I guess.
    Impressive bird

Good colors and details. Agreed that a faster shutter speed would have helped here. I also would think about cropping it a bit more from the right and the top. Good timing !
