This image was made late afternoon at Crex Meadows Wildlife Area near Grantsburg, WI. The area receives over 100,000 visitors per year to view the annual migration of sandhill and whooping cranes, trumpeter swans and a rich variety of other wildlife. Upon arriving at Crex, I realized that the battery for my 40D was at home in the charger. Ludkily, my wife brought the old Rebel XT along which allowed me to have fun.

Hi Roger. It's getting to be that time of year again! I'll be headed down to Bosque del Apache this weekend, and I can't wait! Wing position is good, although it'd be nice if the far wing didn't have the shadow on it. Another round of sharpening would help. And I would boost both saturation and perhaps contrast.

I like the position you caught. Doug's suggestions are good ones.

Thanks all for the comments. Roman, I would also have liked the shadow not to be there. But....given the angle of the sun to the horizon and my back, I'm lucky the image came out this good. It was a now or never situation! Looks like I forgot to resharpen after making the smaller JPEG - oops! I'll try a bit of added saturation.

Good luck at Bosque. I've never been there but hear great things about it through this site.

I think you over used the Noise Reduction tool, also a bit more Sharpening could help as it looks soft to me, still, light and pose as composition are very nice! More saturation could also help. Congratulaitons!
