i had a lot of trouble deciding how to present this bird. he spends 1/2 of his life upside down.
i didn't know if i should show it that way, or make him horizontal. also didn't like the huge tree trunk it was on, but couldn't figure a better way. i hope you all will have some ideas.:o

The pose and presentation on the tree is perfect as I see them at 4 to 5000' every week, and facing down is the way I always see them when they stop long enough to get a photo.

Even Sibley's shows them facing down. Page 324

The bird looks sharp from tail to the eye and then something happened :D

By the way, what is that background?

Hi Mike got a lot of good things going on here

Clean bg, good bird position in frame, no clutter, sharp and a good pose. btw I also like how you gave a little more room at the bottom than top.

As presented I would take a little of the tree to the right since you don't need that much (about half) You don't want the perch overwhelming the bird. Bg is interesting and no clue what it could be. There is some cloning around the head area which you need to watch. Always magnify the area you are working to keep from spilling out and feather selections. Looking forward to the next one !!!

    Hey Mike,
you are coming along very nicely...I like the clean background and the funky position of the bird...My suggestion would be to fix the cloning marks left by the birds head...good show...
