This young of the year Pied-billed Grebe was actively feeding on mummychog minnows in our local Sackville Waterfowl Park. It's nice to see these youngsters develop their independence. Earlier on in the year they were constantly harassing their parents for food even though they seemed quite capable of diving for themselves. I think Pied-billed Grebe eyes are amongst the best in the bird world!

I cropped and ran Noise Ninja on the BG. Original noise level was pretty darn good for 800 ISO though. A few bright spots on the water were cleaned up.

Tremendous detail, and lovely water. A little snug on the left. Very nice overall!

Great shot and detail but agree with Doug on this one. Did a few of these guys today at Green Cay with exactly the same equipment, lets see how mine look. Also John isn't the 50-D a 1.6 crop factor and if so isn't it 800-MM with the 500-MM.

I think he's referring to a 1.4x teleconverter, not to the camera's crop factor.

Bill- Doug has it. I quote the Effective FL as most folks do I think. This refers to FL of the lens with no reference to the sensor size. You are referring to Equivalent FL which for 50D, 500mm, 1.4 tc combo would be 1120mm. The equivalence is traditionally relative to 35mm film size and this is where the crop factor comes in. Crop factors would be quite a bit larger for 120 size film!

Thank you both very much for the information but I did mean without the 1.4 converter.

Lovely water and I like the eye which matches the water colour well.
