I headed down to Prospect Park this morning and found a good number of foxes out and about. The hard part isn't finding the foxes, but getting them in the good light.
This is the only shot I had where the light was pretty much consistent on the animal. He ran right up to me and I didn't want to spook him off with a quick movement by going vertical. I wonder what you think about the cut off legs and tail.
D300, 500mm f4, 1/400, 400 iso, tripod. Cloned out a stick in the body, and burned some of the background.
Jared,
The eyes make the picture. Too bad that you could not turn the camera. But I agree that no photograph is worth more than the interest of the subject. You can get more opportunities later on.
I think if you crop tighter, then the image will work. Have a look at the cropped version I have posted. Would love to see more shots. Keep them flowing.
I love the light in this image but the tail and chopped off legs do bother me. I like Sabyasachi's repost but it makes the BG a bit more prominent than the fox so I tried a boxed shape crop to see what it would look like. I think it gives a good view of the head and BG while still making him the prominent subject.
Hi Jared the original does have a strange crop Need to be careful were to cut the legs Normally close to joints is a good starting point, front is what bothers me.
I see what Sabyasachi was trying leaving more room up front, are he is staring but I like showing a little more of the rear as Jules re posted. I don't think you would have spooked the animal by going vertical if you could do it fast but smooth. btw you can select the eyes and do a little work to make them pop !!!
