I took this last year on a trip to New Mexico. While I liked the colours of the balloons, the best part of the trip was driving from Albuquerque to Bosque Del Apache to see the refuge although it was off-season for most of the birds. (October)

I had the chance to go up or go to Bosque. Since I have already been up in one I chose Bosque. I did help to set up and take down the balloons which is precision-like and done as a team using leather gloves (no static electricity here!) Flying these things are a lot tougher than I imagined. You really have to know the winds.

Have you also tried "down the throat" photography when the balloon's in the early stage of inflation?
