    I like the comp, the BG, the light and the pose, but it doesn't work for me as the blurred here looks strange. Still congratulations!

    For this little bird, to reduce the blur without flash, you need shutter speed of - based on my experiences - 1/5000 or higher. This also means you could be using ISO of 3200 or higher even with the sun shinning bright. Good exposure and good background for this one. Without using flash, you just did not have a shutter speed fast enough to freeze the motion and everything. Question then is: is that necessary? The take-off of a small bird like this is pretty much invisible to the naked eyes.
