Bill
Nice light, excellent definition.
I am not sure I like the stick just along the line where the new rock curves appear (at the base of the little mesa tower in the center of the image).
There is a nice flow to the composition - curving up along the right side. I am not sure about the curve along the left - whether it pulls us back or sends us in another direction.
BTW Alain Briot is just starting a series of columns on composition over at the website Luminous Landscape that you might find interesting. (Hope it's okay to mention other websites). URL is http://luminous-landscape.com/column...on_Intro.shtml
Bill I like the composition the way it is. I would leave the stick just where it is. Its part of the habitat. The colors are fine, I was thinking of boosting the contrast and saturation, but it works for me like this...
Hi Bill Not sure I'm crazy about the exposure I'm seeing very little highlight detail Would try a double conversion of the raw image, one linear the other normal. Then you can blend and should get something.
Can also lower the color temp a little, at times the whites get blown out with a perfect histogram (check red channel)
I like the composition and regarding the stick would include if it was in a different place. Don't like it were its at now. One sweet place to photograph !!!!
Alfred you are right about the red in histogram. I noticed it and tried to get it down to a reasonable level before posting. I didn't try merging two images.
Thank you all for the comments
Alfred, I find I don't know what you mean by "linear conversion". I tried several conversions but nothing seemed to improve the detail in the highlights. Please point me to a discussion of linear conversion.
Gail Spitler's link on composition http://luminous-landscape.com/column...on_Intro.shtml is absolutely wonderful. One of first articles by Emile Zola I parrticularly like.
"Art is something we want, not something we need." and he goes on with more wonderful advice. Thanks Gail!
