    Default Grey Heron with Perch

    Hi

A recent grey heron photo. It was an interesting one to watch as these usually wary birds allowed me to watch at close range without a hide (blind). I watched the whole episode from landing, followed by stalking to eventually swallowing the fish. The background is a bit messy as the bird was in a small reedbed but a memorable experience to watch this bird hunting at close range.

    Taken with 1Dmk3 and 300mm F4 at ISO250 F8 -0.67EV at 1/640s.

    Cheers

Great portrait, details and the fish adds to it. Too bad the BG is not cleaner.

Sounds like a great experience you had, Rich. Love the colours. Might be worth doing some work on the BG to darken down the lightest stalks.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the background is a shame but ytou can't have it all. I might have a play with the background in PS to see if it can be improved.

    Cheers
