Meet Dotty - this is a HUGE HUGE crop - these litle guys are maybe 3 inches long, tiny little guys.

Lance, this is absolutely fantastic. Beautiful colours, wonderfully detailed, a fabulous low angle and that eye ring is to die for.

    Cheers.

Hi Lance Getting close to these little guys is not all that difficult with patience !!! Even using only a 300 lens can be done and with your monster a breeze. Just lay down and wait for them to come to you. If you can get at a good sun angle by the shoreline so they have to cross in front you will get them.

Pose and look is just perfect, did well with exposure image just suffers from the large crop. Would give more room around the bird since it feels tight !!!

    G'day Lance:

Nice capture, I like it. pleasing colours and attitude

Looking at your photo it's hard to imagine they are only 3" long. Hummingbirds are generally around 3.75" long to the Magnificent at 5.25"

    Thanks for sharing

    Nicely done Lance,
You have a good composition, image and exposure. I like the dark green background which makes your bird pop. The eye is a killer, I love it...good show...

Well done, Lance! Beautiful colors in the bird and the water. I agree with Al that it feels a bit tight in the frame but you did a marvelous job at capturing this little guy!

Great capture Lance. Like the details and the background. Do agree with giving it a little more room.
