    Default Wood Duck

We are lucky to have such great opportunities to photograph Wood Ducks in Albuquerque. I love the way they stick out their breasts when they flap their wings. I was pleased that whites were preserved in spite of the fact that I had no negative EC dialed in. This image is uncropped; I was fortunate to fit the whole bird into the frame.

Great shot Doug! I am envious of your ability to use the higher iso with no noise!! Maybe I will mistakenly get credit for this one:D:D

Awesome pose and detail, Doug. Great in camera composition with the full frame capture. DOF covers the important areas perfectly.

Awesome Doug! I hate to find a negative here, but the first thing that caught my attention was the far wing forming a triangle above the head...I kinda wish that wing was further back instead. Details on the front wing are amazing, and the colours are perfect throughout :-)

Very nice detail and exposure on this little guy Doug. One of the best wood duck shots I've seen in a long time :)

Terrific Doug, the pose is fantastic. I cannot but imagine how good this image would be with the foirst light of the morning and with a lower angle. Neat colors and eye contact.

I agree Daniel, and it took me a while to decide whether or not the image was a keeper with the far wing behind the head. I finally decided that the wing didn't really detract from an otherwise nice image.

Would take this in a heartbeat Doug! Love the exposure and colors captured and of course the pose. The far wing is not ideal but this is still excellent in my book. Good job!

Brilliant colours, and the detail is amazing. ( I have just purchased a 50D, and its all due to viewing your previous images. Not blaming you - thanking you. Ha Ha ) Thank you too for all the info you have passed on regarding the 50D.

The only thing I might add is maybe toning down the bright area of his beak. If what you captured is an accurate representation just ignore me.

Very pretty image with an artistic feel. This convinces me to soon purchase a 50D as a "backup " to my MKIII.

These were taken at the Albuquerque Biopark. They have a big pond there with close to 100 ducks. All but three are wild and come and go as they please. Lots of Mallards and Wood Ducks (all wild). A number of American Wigeons (all wild). One Hooded Merganser (wild). One Ruddy Duck (captive). A few Scaups (all wild). Also some Canada Geese (wild) and a family of Black-Crowned Night-Herons (wild). A pretty good selection of birds; the park is well worth a visit if you have the time.
