I photographed this family of two adult loons and a chick in late June, 2008 just after sunrise, Damariscotta Lake, Maine. The chick was about two weeks old. We need light for our photographs but I wondered what this family would look like bathed in moonlight. After application of several Color Efex filters (including Pop Art and Midnight), I came up with this moonlit scene that seemed about right.
Keith, Midnight is my favorite filter in efex. I like this alot but would like it more if you could clone the loons beak in the reflection on LS. Would love to see orig. The water looks so cool!!
Thanks, Denise, and I agree it would look better with some suggestion of the bill in the reflection. However, as you'll see in the attached original, the left adult loon's reflection - including the bill - was broken up by some small ripples. I don't think I can fix the original reflection in PS - not even sure I should try because the ripples were there. As for the transformed image using Efex, I might be able to do something with that, and it's definitely worth a try. Stay tuned ...
Sweet image Keith !! Can only suggest to work on the eye of the right bird, should be able to clone form the other bird I feel eye are important even for DCs !!!
Everyone is making some good suggestions...I'd also like to see you take that dark sliver right off the top edge. It's a very creative image, Keith, and I love the look you're going for!
Wow- the original and the 2nd try are quite stunning! A very interesting transformation- I don't mind the white halos around the birds. Glad you fixed the eyes. :) Quite an eerie effect, as if you were hearing a Loon call at midnight.
