    Default Golden-winged warbler, male

I'm getting anxious to get out and photo birds again, awaiting a hopeful influx of wintering northern harriers and owls. In the meantime, I was working away on my website and liked this summer image so much I placed on my home page-wanted to share here. if self-critiquing, i'd wish the background were more uniform. Canon 40D, 300 2.8 x2, fill flash, just after 6PM thunderstorm, sun came out.

Bird looks great, and at least the BG directly behind the bird is uniform. It's easy enough to minimize the visual impact of the BG. Just create a hue/saturation adjustment layer, desaturate the yellows, and mask the bird.

What a beauty! I like how the warbler is leaning slightly to his left. I also like what Doug did to the BG, but I wonder if somewhere in between both versions would be best. Lots of reports of harriers, owls, and also redpolls already up here...should be a good winter!

Here's another repost with a bit more BG color.

Wonderful light, pose, and details. The BG looks best in the third post.

Lovely light, pose and head angle. I like Doug's 2nd post. Look forward to seeing the original when your site is back up, Jeff.
