    D300 70-300 f4.5-5.6 VR handheld @ 300mm. Manual exposure mode, ISO 800 f8 1/1250.

Darkened the sky/background and enhanced the colors; tweaked the contrast; cropped a bit for composition purpose.

    Hmmm...pp skills still need work.

    C&C welcome !

since the background is not in focus, I keep wanted to see the bird larger in the image.

Beautiful colours Desmond and a nice composition. I like the 'feel' of this shot. I think increasing the size of the gull in the image would give you a fundamentally different picture, not necessarily a good (or bad) thing.

    Cheers.

    Hi Desmond,
I like it as presented but another option would be to take the picture from right underneath the post ( if that were possible!) It would give you a funky angle on the bird!!

I like it as presented would only lighten the bird a bit Like the placement toward a corner, feel and mood. Lots of other possibilities here but would change the basic image to something else !!! Simple and effective !!!

This is beautiful Desmond. With the sun setting (I think) you have captured the quality of the light perfectly IMO. The clouds in the BG are very pretty and add to the mood and I love the framing.

You mean the "wide-angle" one, Harold? It was shot @300mm so I'm not sure it qualifies :)

    I agree, Sean.

A funky angle it would be, Nicki, but I had to climb down fifty feet and then walked out in the water for another fifty feet - I guess - to take that shot :)

Thanks for the comments and the suggestions, everyone !

    Hi Desmond,
I like the composition, you did capture a natural mood here. I played with your composition and cropped from the right of the pilar just a tad; croped from the bottom and from the top to make it into a pano; see if you like this other possibility...:) Tell me what you think, again I like yours...:)

I think by cropping, you have essentially changed the perspective. The bird and the post are now taking up more space of the image. It's a little different from the original, and to me it is also delivering a slightly different "message". I personally prefer more negative space for this one ;)

    Thanks for sharing, Gus !
