Terrific shot Gary! You really nailed this one! Love the perfect symmetry and the way both eyes are totally visible. I might darken the BG a little to better separate it from the white feathers. Hope you're enjoying the new camera body!

Definitely a very different perspective of a hooded merganser. I personally would like to see more details in the whites though. Otherwise, I think it's a good abstract-type photo

Love the synmmetry and eyes. Would also prefer more separation between the whites and the BG. A smaller aperture would have improved DOF - critical focus seems to be on the beak and the eyes don't look quite as sharp.

Even with 420 mm focal length, you got pretty close to that hoodie, Gary! I love the head-on shot with the bill sharp and both eyes fairly sharp. Agree with other comments that a little more separation between white head feathers and the BG would help - maybe you needed a little more DOF. One other possibility might be to select both eyes and apply a little sharpening (USM 125 / 0.24 / 0) a couple of times. That might help accentuate the eyes. But overall this is a stunning photo, quite different from most hoodie photos I have seen (and taken). Congrats!
