Cloned out a small dark area of shadow in the BG.

I was set up and waiting for these two Gambel's Quail to start their ariel fights, that's why my shutter speed was so high. Never got the arial fight, but was happy when this guy stopped in.

Wow! This is a great image. You have good head angle and eye contact. The rock makes a nice foreground and the BG is nice and clean. I might crop out the grass and smaller rock at the bottom. Congratulations.

Here is the suggested crop. I added some canvas in front of the bird to balance the image. When I compared both versions, I found that I liked both. The first adds a notion of the environment while the second emphasizes the bird. I would keep them both images.

Wonderful light and sharpness, Alan. I love the setting. I would also crop a little off the bottom, but not quite as much as Joel did. That is just my opinion though.

Love the original, the cropped repost is a bit extreme for me. I could see cropping just the smallest OOF foreground rock out, but not much more than that.

    That light!!

Beautiful pose and light. Roadrunners are among my favorite birds. Didn't know they were in the cuckoo family.
