I made a quick trip to the desert after a meeting last week and was able to capture something that has eluded me for some time... a mature desert bighorn ram. I have photographed ewes and young rams on several occasions but never a nice ram. Although the rut is winding down, it is still summer in the desert (97 degrees F!), and the sheep regularly visit water holes. Shooting them in shade, and adjusting the white balance, proved to be one way to deal with the harsh desert sunlight.

Nice head angles on these guys and inclusion of their environment. Those are some pretty massive horns for those small necks (when compared with the Rocky Mountain Bighorn) The look on the one in the middle's face reminds me of the guy that always jumps into someone else's vacation photos at the last minute.
Milo, great to find these rams. I've been to Anza Borrego several times and have had no luck with these guys. I really like the eye contact from all three of them.
