Spring in Texas led me to Big Bend Ntl Park where I found this bird very common in the campground area. This allowed use of a vehicle as a blind. Spring here is very enjoyable and off the beaten path.
Simple portrait but colors are vivid.

Hi Chas. Love the way the red pops against the green BG. I wish you had a bit more head turn. A little more sharpening would help. And the reds could be desaturated some to pick up more feather detail. Please try to post tech specs along with your photos. Thanks for posting!

Here's a repost with desaturated reds and some additional sharpening. There's quite a bit of detail hiding in the red feathers. You'll be able to do much better than that with a full-sized image file.

I toyed with more sharpening but usually I am turned off by bright highlights off plumage.I do like your rendering of the red and will keep that in mind in the future.
    Thanks for the input.
Off tomorrow for Oklahoma and Texas Panhandle so will be out of loop for three weeks.
    Thanks for looking.

Stunning colours, Chas. Red really leaps out against the green BG. Doug has done well to pull more detail out of the reds but the repost looks oversharpened to me. Was this a significant crop?

#1: The reds in the ORIG post are oversaturated and thus overexposed (as shown by a simple Levels check).

#2: The re-post is way oversharpened and the reds way too toned down--don't take it personally Doug and thanks for the effort.

#3: For the repost the main thing that I did was to add a ton of CYAN to the REDS in Selective Color. I used this new trick that I had never heard of before with some fall color images of leaves--posted somewhere here...

#4-the overexposure of the REDS was eliminated with the de-SAT of the REDS in Hue SAT.

#5--I realize the reds might be a bit too toned down but I was working only with the JPEG...
