    Default Elk

This is one of the elk images I captured a few weeks ago in Yellowstone National Park. The light was fading fast but this big guy paused and stood still long enough for me to create this image. Seeing (and hearing) these creatures in late September while they're rounding up their harems is something I'll always enjoy experiencing...

    Hi John,
I like these "look back" poses and you captured this one in some nice surroundings. That's pretty good sharpness for that shutter speed. I'm undecided about the green spot in the upper right (as viewed). It is discernible as grass and it certainly doesn't overpower the image but it keeps pulling my eye up there due to its contrast with the uniformity of the surrounding colors.

Nice work John. DOF just right to get the whole elk in focus. Please look in the grass and nice light make this a real winner.

    Hey John,
Sweet! You got a nice look back as mentioned above and the green doesn't grab my eye like Steve's. Nobody mentioned it.......but i will.........you got a killer seperation in the antler tips because of your angle........as you know.........not always that easy. Really nice job!

I agree with the look back pose, antler seperation, both make this one nice image! Good exposure and nice brown tones. I think removing the greens will hurt more than help. And to me it does not detract. It is what it is, nice! :)

Beautiful image, nicely composed and exposed. The elk trumpet is a magical sound.

Nice sharp image for the low light you had.

John, I really like this image... the tones and headturn make it one for a wall space.

    Hi John,
I like the composition as presented. Its placed just right in frame. You have sharp details with good color rendition and the head angle and eye contact is dead on confrats...
