We spent five days high in the Canadian Rockies photographing this group of eight rams. Shortly after this image was taken the rams one at a time lowered there head and fell soundly asleep (complete with snoring) within a few feet of us. It was an experience the participants and I will never forget. The key was to always depart the rams on a positive note, no harassing, etc. Proper wildlife etiquette and behavioral know-how can dramatically increase your wildlife imagery success.

Fantastic capture Chas... the overall composition is superb, and the various head positions of the rams with some looking off in the distance, to the eye contact with the one in the center really makes this one special.

    Hi Chas,
Very nice. I like the varied head angles of this shot, the lines created by mountain ridge and the grassy hill, and the wedge of water/trees seperating the two. The pastel clouds add to the relaxed feeling that the rams seem to be displaying. I also like how you kept the horns under the ridgeline in the BG. Great subjects too!

    Chas,

I like how you positioned yourself to create a pleasing juxtaposition of the rams to each other. This image is a good example of how having the subject inthe center of the image can work. Your closest ram is flanked in a semi-circular manner. When I look at the image I go right for the center ram, but then scan left to the next larger one who is looking at me, then following to the back rams and around to the right.

The DOF is just right leaving the BG with sufficient sharpness to appreciate the setting w/o overpowering the rams. Lastly, the diagonal of the hill they are on adds a nice tension to the image that aids the placement of the rams.

    Simply Beautiful!!
Its really amazing to see that you could go so near to these rams. The Background here gives a sense of their habitat which is even more elevating.
    Congratulations Chas!!

Excellent comp. Quick work on your part to catch them before they all fell asleep! The one on the right is starting to daydream.

That is one beautiful image!!! Love the low angle and the wide angle as well. Also really like the inclusion of the mountains as well.

    Great story as well.
