I could use some suggestions on cropping this image. As you can see I was using the center focus point with my Canon 40D and my 100-400 L IS. I've tried a couple of things but none of them jumped out at me.

Anyone willing to take a shot, I'd appreciate it. Other comments suggestions welcome also.

    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hi there,
I was wondering if this presented any better for you. Cloned some things out of the BG.

Ken- You came to the right place. Jackie is the queen of cropping! I like the colors splashed inside your background

    Ken,

Have you tried cropping from a horizontal to a vertical? I have done that on occasion with GBH images with good results.

Hi Ken Normally you want to have more room in front of the bird than behind Here he is looking at something so you want to have room in that direction. At back don't need much except to fit the bird properly. Here is my suggestion ... added a little canvas to the front quick and dirty.

    Hi Ken
Alfred's is a nicely balanced and sharp image but I quite like the foreground so have left it in.

    Folks,

Thank you all very much on your cropping suggestions. Clearly there is more than one way to get a pleasing image from this original shot.

I have about 6-7 shots of this heron in which the lighting is good and with sharp focus while he is in various poses. I do need to work on my ability to clone out some background stuff. Need to go through the APTATS information again.

    Thanks again,
    Ken
