Here's a Northern Shoveler from my recent trip to Southern California. No, I'm not abandoning my Mark III ;). Here's proof.

Killer pose and eye contact!!!
Yeah, it amazes me how good photographers can make sharp flight images with a camera that does not focus. This is quite stunning. If the light had been right behind you instead of coming in from a bit in front of the bird, perhaps those green secondaries would have been lit up...(I know, I am a tough taskmaster...)

This is an incredible image, just super wonderful in every respect, but would like to tell you my MK-3 never ever took an image like this, thanks for sharing but wish I would have taken it.

Excellent capture Doug. Love the eye contact and details.
PS: You don't need a MKIII to capture images like this one :D..... All about technique!

First thought that came to mind when I saw this was "Beautiful."
Fantastic light, sharp detail, killer BG. Awesome.
Excellent work Doug, even with a sub-standard camera :-D
Kirk
brilliant work Doug, I would love to be able to shoot like this one day
Wonderful light, timing and sharpness. Outstanding!
Superb wing position and amazing sharpness. Nice work, Doug :)
I am amazed. In every forum you hear that the AF of this camera has got a mind of its own and decides where to focus. :-)
Its sharp as is expected. And I like its wings. Nice image.
Doug the camera is good the lens better, I found in a flight sequence, my first shot is not so sharp but all after that until the buffer objects is sharp, I found out the first shot is the one that the finger comes down [ not sliding like Artie yet] that and fact the IS has not quite kicked in after that they are as sharp as you can wish for [ but also you do a lot of hand holding, the only hand holding is with my wife] that also cause a slight problem with focus. A mounted camera with cable release on a static object is always 100% right from GO. Well done photo Doug.
Hey, do understand that with all of my Canon DIgital camera bodies that I get many sharp and some soft images in a flight sequence. I do not know of any brand camera that makes every flight image sharp on the eye...

Gorgeous! You're making me look twice at selling off my car so I can get one of those cameras and a 600mm lens. Hmm...now where did I put that bus schedule again???
Gosh, Doug...this is just spectacular. The eye contact and the detail...it's superb.
Thanks for all the compliments everyone; they are much appreciated!

Very good job nailing this flight Doug specially considering that you used a MkIII. Terrific eye contact and very nice wing pose. Well done!
Great all the way around, Doug. Sharp, nice pose and wing position, and good color.
