    Default Northern Saw-whet

Had the pleasure to get out to Amherst Island with 2 fellow photogs.

While both friends have cards full of this little beauty; I managed but 2 images.

All the more reason for a return visit...

Must have been a thrill to get so close! I wish we could see more of the owl below...it is cropped quite tight on the neck, but I'm sure there were branches and such in the way ;-) I can see evidence of work being done around the head as there is the classic "cookie-cutter" look around the contour of the owl's head and also the back in LRC. I hope to make there at least once this year!

Great looking portrait Ted, I really like the tight comp, soft light and the eye contact.

    Agree with Daniel's points.

Also I would balance the FG/BG tones, lighten the face and darken the BG a little.

Ted, what a great species...I've always wanted to photograph one! The close-up work nicely for me, but I wish that the eye on the right side of the image was brighter. That is where my eye falls first, but it is too dark and doesn't grab me like it should. I hope you get another opportunity to enjoy this beautiful species!

I agree with the comments. Was this captive?
