beautiful bird, jeni!! he looks so small on that large perch! almost overwhelming!! exposure looks great. might crop more off the top and add a little to the right for a landscape crop instead of a vertical.

    Hi Jeni,
That is one neat looking bird. Love the BG and the framing. Could your bird's body use a wee bit of sharpening? Beautiful complimentary colours between the bird and the BG, very pretty!

    Hi Jeni,

NIce looking bird. For a large crop I think his image held up fairly well. If I may, what camera/lens were you using and at what settings? The background is very nice and the colors of the bird are also very pleasing. Nice catch light. Capturing the image with the beak open is a plus in my book. I agree with Harold about the perch but, very nice as presented.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Phil

    Well done Jeni,
I like the composition, image and exposure. The soft pale background compliments the bird very well. I like the sharp details and the vibrant colors. you have a great head angle with good eye contact. proud of you...:)

Beautiful bird Jeni! The tight crop hurts feather detail, as I'm sure you already know. But you handled the PS work quite well! I would crop some off the top of the image. Thanks for posting!

Thanks so much. Al. you can't wish it more than I do!!!:(
I have now bought a 2nd hand Mark II so I can use the 300mm f4 with 2x to give me more length and have AF. Not ideal, as I lose DOF and it's quite slow but better than nothing.
    Ok. confession time!!:o:o:o
I was taught filter and extract by Cindy. Ummm so :o.....the fire finch was extracted from a bird feeder and "perched" prettily on an imported branch; it is a very large crop. (focal length was 420mm)
Prob was I haven't learnt to resize the branch to fit the bird's proportions!!
    BG is as was shot.
It is such a stunning little bird and that was the only shot I have managed to get of it. Just seen it twice now so thought I'd show you all the bird and my new PS skill.
Next time I promise to have this beautiful bird on a natural perch and definitely no PS..
