interesting behaviour captured here, Rick. Difficult exposure situation with the light and the dark bird. The whole image looks dark to me with no detail under the wing of the dark heron - you have managed the whites well to keep detail there. I tried lightening the whole image by pushing the midpoint slider in levels to the left then selected the whites and copied to a new layer and selected linear burn as the blending mode and backed off to about 25% opacity. There is a lack of sharpness which is partially down to motion blur but I think you are facing a battle with the low res of the D2H.
