    Default Band-tailed Barbthroat

    Hi all,
Here's one from Costa Rica that I was reprocessing today. This bird (which is a type of hermit (hummingbird)) had a display perch that I found in the forest. It was *very* dark even mid-day (see techs), so while it sang and rapidly pumped its tail in display, I managed one frame -- this one -- that captured the rapid tail motion but also rendered the eye fairly sharp. Hope you like it.

    As always, all comments appreciated!

Tough conditions to photograph in. You managed to show us nicely the behaviour of these guys calling/displaying.

Neil, nice shot of this guy. Getting even 1/50 of a second SS is always a treat in the rainforest as you know, and you made good use of the little DOF you had. It's a nice portrait, and I like the motion in the tail feathers.

    Cheers,
    Greg

Agree with the above comments Neil. Great behavior captured! In many ways, the low light really helped the shot by forcing a slower shutter speed. Thanks for posting!
