Loukie another wonderful capture of a species I have yet to see. Looks a bit like our black-crowned night herons.. Beautiful pose and a lovely composition and BG. The eye contact is awesome. Many thanks for sharing.
Wonderful bird, lovely BKGR, and ditto what Judy said. The bird, however, is well overhsarpened.

Our Green Herons used to be called Green-backed Heron...I did not realize another species had claimed the name! :-) I agree with both Judy Lynn and Artie. There is also some odd "ghosting" along the heron's back...
Beautiful subject Loukie! As Daniel mentions, this species may be the reason that the North American Green-backed Heron was renamed to the Green Heron...I'll look into it... Nice overall, but the oversharpening that Artie mentions is somewhat distracting.
I am not positive but I believe that the bird in the image and our Green Heron are one in the same species... Just checked: I was wrong. Same genus, different species.
