This is a flower where I blurred the background and then used the poster edge filter. I hope the colors are more pleasing than my last post!

BTW, I had trouble feathering. It would not come up under any of the layers. Can someone help me? I did a quick lasso on this, and probably should have smudged/feathered the selection.

Strange flowers, wonderful colors, and I like the BKGR effects. At first I thought that it was a bowl of berries.

    Joanna,
Nicely done! I like the comp, the rich colors, and the BG effect.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. Could you not find the "feather" menu choice? Which version of PS are you using? I just upgraded from CS2 to CS4, and quickly noticed that "feather" is no longer on the "Select" menu. It's now under "Select > Modify" or "Select > Refine". The latter brings up a dialog that lets you do all the things on the "Modify" submenu in one place.

In any case, I can't see anything in your posted image that looks like a selection problem. I'm sure you see more detail in the original at full res.

Chris: I am still using CS2 and I can find the feather selection, but it never is highlighted. I am not sure what I am missing. I tried in all 4 layers and it would not open under any of them.

Joanna, I really like this...very nice colors and love the BG. My one thought on the feathering issue is sometimes layers have to be merged for something to work...maybe that's the case?

    Joanna,
Did you have an active selection when you were looking at "feather"? If not, that menu choice will be grayed out. If you're wanting to feather an existing layer mask, I can think of 2 ways to do it. One is to select the mask, and run a Guassian Blur on it, which doesn't quite do the same thing as feathering a selection, but may accomplish what you want - it makes the mask edges fuzzy. The other is to select the layer mask, right click on it, and choose "Add Layer Mask To Selection". Then you can feather the selection (or expand, contract, whatever). To turn the feathered selection back into a layer mask, first right-click on the original layer mask and choose "Delete Layer Mask". Then (with the layer you just deleted the mask from active) click on the "Add Layer Mask" icon at the bottom of the layers pallete.

Thanks everyone. Chris -I will look next time to make sure I have an active selection-- I thought I did, but I will try again. Thanks for your advice -- it is always appreciated.
