I took this shot in Yosemite NP awhile ago.
I would like to start to do more landscapes so any tips , help, critques or comments would be appreciated.

PS- I climbed Lembert Dome and took sunset shots as well. It was incredible the stars were so bright.

Can't give you tips on landscapes Denise, but you have one fine image with vibrant colors, and very well composed.
    Congrats,

    Hey Denise,
It was very nice meeting you at the camera club the other night.I'm glad I get more time to explain myself here so I can try and be more thorough. I'll try to be gentle :D!

Time of day is the landscapers friend & enemy. Judging by the shadows.........it had to be pretty close to mid day.......not the best of times for photography but it loos like you may have had a bit of overcast.......which helped you in this case. First the composition..........I like your placement of the dome in the frame and the sky isn't too much........but the FG gets a bit busy. Try and look for a strong FG element without too many other distractions in the frame..........and in this case I think a simple crop may have helped on that end.

I've re-posted below as I tried to tame the lighting a bit. First........the crop and a bit of healing brush to remove the remnants of the bright rock in the grass where I cropped. A few minor touch ups in the water also. For me, this took out the distracting clump of grass and a few of the distracting rocks........now the remaining ones seem more interesting but it also made the mountain range more prominant.
2nd.......a shadow/highlight correction......(you could use curves.......but I took the easy way out!)........the Shadows were set to amount 23.....tonal width 23..... and radius 30.....the highlight sliders were A 50 T 50 and R 30......the rest were at 0 except that I added a bit of mid tone contrast at +17. Lokked pretty good at that point......as it recovered all the whites and added a bit of punch.......but I went for a bit more........so I did a local contrast adjustment (LCE) using filter>sharpen> unsharp mask with amount at 20.....radius at 20 and threshold at 0. (you can use the A from 20-40....R from 20-60......and threshold from 0-4....playing around with the sliders will give you the result you want).
So overall.....you composed the image very nicely........time of day could have been better.......but with the minor tweaks (Yes, they were minor).........IMO the image turned out very nicely.
Let me know what you think and if you are still talking to me .

Roman, Thankyou so much for taking the time to help me. I know you are very busy and I promise I won't keep bugging you.
I really like your suggestions and plan on using them w/ my future shots. Until you removed the grass clumps I hadn't realized how distracting they were. I will look for cleaner FG in the future and shoot later in day or much earlier. And I will work on my workflow! Thanks again!!!

Beautiful shot Denise, I like the cropping of the foreground elements. Maybe just lightening of the shadows a bit? Like the colours in your original post. Hope you get your CS4 problems ironed out.
