I haven't been able to post to the list lately, but I did spend the time getting many many images of fall colors. For most of my autumn color images, including this one, I added more than usual contrast but very little saturation. I tried different settings and views ranging from close ups just leaves like this image, to including large parts of the woods, and all in between.

How can I improve this type?

    Thanks!

oh, due to the details in this image, in order to get it down to the required size, I had to reduce the quality of the photo to 49% so I hope it looks OK.

Agree with Denise. I like how you captured all the shades of red in this one.

Hi Cheryl you should not loose any quality by decreasing the size Are you using Save for web .... or save as !!! Huge difference !!!

Love the idea behind this image Would like to see a smoother density transition !!!

Al, I used Save for Web, at 768 pixels across. But still had to down that much in quality to get a small enough size.

what do you mean by smoother density transition??

cheryl, i think what al is talking about is the transition between darker and lighter tones. adding density usually means adding darker tones to compliment lighter ones. hope this helps. sugar maple? used to have one in NC. sure was beautiful, just like this one!!

Harold, so how do I do that? Did I add too much contrast?

i think so. just looked at the histogram, blacks are blocked and the whites are blown. i downloaded the image and tried a contrast decrease and it did look better. didnt take much either!! try it and see what you think.
