    Manatees Mating #2 - S.W Florida

This is the second image of the series. Nothing fantastic here but as you can see, I was photographing these Manatees against the sun, so I pulled the 500mm, 550EX and better beamer to get some close ups.

You can find the first image here.

BTW, these image made it to the local paper.

    More to come!

    Thanks!

    Hi Maxis,

I've seen manatees in the rivers and springs. We used to dangle our feet in the water from the dock on the St. John's River in Jacksonville, and they'd come roll over and let us rub their bellies with our feet.... Such great creatures! We used to see them mating in the river - but it was just a boil on the surface of the water.

I've never seen them in salt water, personally - so your image of them in the surf is a real treat!

    Thanks for sharing the image!

Maxis, this was an awesome find! And to have come across it at that time of day is really lucky. The sun rays are a nice touch.

    Hi Guys,

This was a first time for me as well and I'm glad I was there at the right time. There is word that there was ONE female and FIVE males trying to get luck. They were there for over 4 hours....

    More to come!

PS: The horizon is messed up on this one.... :D

    Thanks!

    Hey Maxis,
Must've been a neat experience. And well captured.
