sid, it looks a bit soft to me. was thinking you could have bumped the ISO for a little better shutter speed. the backlight didnt hurt you but some fill flash may have helped. compo looks good but may try to diffuse the bg a little. cool looking bird. i dont see many around here.

Hi Sid - agree with Mr H - general rule of thumb is - you want your minimum shutter speed to match the focal length you are shooting at - or use a tripod.

Some more PS sharpening might help - along with some work on the bright spots in the BG.

    COOL BIRD.

    Hi Sid,
I like the concept and composition...you were given excellent advise by Doctor Davis and Mr. Peters...all I can say is to watch the ISO settings and the shutter speeds...good show...looking forward to some more...

Nice composition and head angle. Agree with previous comments regarding the BG.

Thanks everyone. I agree on the BG, but the sharpness is bothering me. The original looks very sharp at 100% in Lightroom 2, but when I resize it starts to look soft. Here it is with sharpening after I downsized for posting.

Hi Sid When you say ... sharpening after I downsized .... do you ever sharpen before downsizing? Not a good idea

Also when you reduce the size of the image for posting do use bicubic sharper (makes a difference) default is bicubic smoother which is the setting for upsizing !!!

Ah ha. What I have been doing is processing the photo for my normal size (8x10 or 11x14) and then sharpen. When I post to BPN is just resize to the 800 pixel dimension and my default is bicubic smoother.

    Thanks for the help.

    Sid
