Probably one of my favorite photos that you've submitted Lesley! Love the sharp eye combined with the blurred wings. Also like the tucked-in feet. Great BG too.

The face is nice and sharp, and the wing position/blur really cool. Perhaps more room around would be good, and lightening the iris a bit would yield a nice result. Well done!!

Very cool, I love the blurred wings here. Not an easy shot to pull off.

Ditto Doug. What camera? What lens? What was the situation, i.e., how did you create the image? The more details that you include with your post the more folks can learn and that is why we are here...

Lovely image. Very painterly feel to BG and bird. Love the sharp eye and beak - not sure what is making the side of the head look soft as seems in same plane as eye and beak. Love the feet. More technicals would be nice.

    Thanks for all the comments.

    here some more details:

the camera used is a canon 30D en the lens is a canon 500mm L IS usm.

the shot is made from a permanent hide, where also is a feeding place to lure(?) the birds, when they fly towards the bird feeders and there already is a bird on the feeder they sometimes hang still for a second (or two).

I did put the camera on manual focus (because the focus of the camera is to slow) and focused on the point were I hoped it would be and then you just have to wait and hope that it works, this time it did :-)

Thanks Leslie. Given the situation, the image is a great accomplishment no matter how long they hang for...
