See you did the research on "Oom" ;) however, a couple of things to add that they don't mention:
1.Oom is a direct translation of Uncle.
2.Afrikaans people were sticklers on protocol and would never dream of addressing an older person by their Christian name so as a form of respect, Oom (Uncle)\ Tannie (Aunt) was\is added.
3. If one has a lot of respect for a person especially regarding wisdom and knowledge, "Oom" is used..........I use it in that context.:):)

This is superb. I like the capture, image and composition. The background colors are very nice. The details are very sharp and the vibrant colors of your bird makes him stand out...good show...:cool:
