I made this image from the lion and converted it to Black and White to emphasize the look of the beautiful eyes.
Does it work?

I do like the eyes. The expression seems to be rather forlorn
Rosl,
I think doing this image in B&W was inspired and a great way to go. I love the expression and the composition.
I would like to offer you some tonal tweaks to enhance the image. In the repost, I did the following.
Local Contrast Enhancement using USM on a BG copy at 25/40/0.
Curves using PSCS3 medium s-curve preset.
Quickmask the eyes to select them and then curves on that selection to lighten them up.
USM to sharpen at 125/0.2/30 - two rounds.
I'd love to see this as a B&W with the eyes left in color.....
Robert I like what you've done here- I also like the included advice it's very helpful to begginers like myself.
Rosl, Nice capture !! Well done as usual
I love the looks. Robert's repost looks much better. B&W has its own charm.
