Great blue herons at Venice Rookery. This is a crop, so I have more canvas to work with. Any workflow suggestions for improving this shot would be welcomed. Ah, if the twig only had a few green leaves!

    Hi Mike,
Workflow wise I don't have a lot to suggest, as I am watching this on my work monitor which isn't calibrated. As far as I can tell it looks pretty good, although on this monitor it looks as if you could maybe selecitvely apply a little noise reduction in the BG. Composition wise I don't think a square crop is the way to go here. I suggest to add more space to the left, take a little off the right = effectively move you subjects a little more to the right, add a little to the bottom and top. The rest looks absolutely awesome! Love the headturn, poses, stretched wings and behavior caught, the BG is nice as well! Congrats

I totally agree with Krijn´s suggestions about the BG and composition. I wouldn´t mind about that green leaves that you miss on the twig because this image has plenty of beautifull greenery in the BG. The action is fantastic, and the light... and the sharpness... really good image!

I would like to see more room at the bottom. Very intimate pose The BG looks good too! When was this taken?

The interaction is just so sweet, especially the female leaning her head against the male and looking up at him. Nice light and sharpness. Agree with Krijn's noise and crop suggestions. Lovely capture.
