There is an article about possible closures of 19 Florida State Parks in today's Tampa Tribune. I would note that Kissimee Prairie Preserve is on the list in the printed edition of the paper. I could not find the listing online:
It is far from a done deal--Basically as I understand it the govenor has asked all state agencies for a list of what they would cut if they had to cut their budgets 10%. It is a product of the state economy as well as certain amendments recently approved by voters.
I guess state budgets have to cut $$ somewhere; but why is it almost always the park or environmental type cuts? Like Alfred I wonder what will happen to the land and facilities when the state stops supporting and maintaining them?
