    Default Arctic fox kits

A photograph from last summer where I spend another 10days with an arctic fox family. While I wanted to do some out of the box photography with these furry fellows, the weather wasn't cooperative at all...so I had to change plans. Really happy that the modern equipment allowed me to continue photographing using high ISO's as the light was really bad.
Not my best arctic fox photograph...but I post this because of a composition issue. Composition-wise I find this a difficult photograph...because the left fox needs some space to look into the whole scene gets a bit too centered IMO. Curious about your opion...

    Hi Jasper,
Wonderful creatures and worth the frustration. Perhaps by giving the front kit much less space to the left you can put the balance of the image onto the back kit and that great expression and eyes. As presented, the image takes my eye between the front and the back kit. It needs a place to rest, which I think should be on theback kit.

    Best,

    Gerald

    He buddy,
My eye is already drawn to the right fox in this shot. In my opinion the way you are presenting this is the way to go. Although the left fox is looking away from the camera taking more of the left would give a cramped feel I think, and taking more from the right would take attention away from the right fox as you would move the eyes of the right fox away from the 1/3, 2/3 intersection. I think you did a terrific job on a difficult to compose image, well done! My only nit would be the OOF stones in the FG. Otherwise very sweet! Love the tail!!!

I think Krijin put it rather simply. Too much crop from the left would not be good. I love those blue eyes.

That is a tough comp but I'd have done the same as you have on this one. What a difference just a slight head turn of the left one would've made. Nice detail and the BG color really goes nicely with this image.

    Jasper,

I feel that you rule of thirds crop serves the image well. I downloaded it and tried different variations and still prefer your original. The light, the BG and the glow on the foxes is priceless.

I think the comp works well here. The fox on the left balances the image out. Love the color of the background as well. Would love to photograph these foxes one day.

    Hey Jasper,
I'm fine with the comp as presented.........the ROT placement of the fox facing us is great. Gorgeous BG also........we all want the other one looking at us as I am sure you also wanted in the field.........but the tail under the chin and other elements all combine to make an excellent overall image.

Jasper, I like the version u've posted too. Difficult to imagine other possibilities 'bettering' this one. Might only wish the left fox pup was turned a little more towards the camera. U've got excellent details of the individuals couple with lovely smooth bokeh. Might burn some of the FG highlights.

    excellent shot of cute pups
We feel that the composition is really nice and it could not be any better than it is.
The rules of composition are made to be broken and there are no rules just guidelines,
and this shot just proves that.
    :)
