Was asked to take some shots of a local perormance of the Cats Musical, bit different ot what I usually do - here's a sample. Anyone have any pointers on how to improve????

Has a strong orange cast - but this is realistic of the lighting at the time.

    Thanks

Would crop tighter Lance Can zoom in on the eyes and work on them It is a very nice image !!! I like it !!!

....btw cast wise it doesn't bother me much since we are used to seeing them under those lights. Does add to the mood !!

The subject blends well with the light and background. Not so much it gets lost however. The cast light is a plus in my view. As Alfred said it helps to set the image off and retain mood. I think a vertical crop from top of head to lower underneath the chin would be nice. How about this crop. I feel it puts more emphasis on the face and captures the light as well. Just a suggestion.

You've done a great job here Lance. I like the original but would crop a little off the right. I have done a number of stage shows (rehearsals, cast portraits, programme shots and design and show photos) and really enjoy them. The lighting can be a challenge and a custom white balance can be useful, but usually it changes so much during the show that one size doesn't fit all. Shooting RAW+JPG can be useful as I find auto white balance often does a good job but for those that need a significant colour shift there just is not enough in a JPG to do it cleanly.

    Hey Lance,
I don't normally photograph people......so take this with a grain of salt.........I was strictly looking at the color balance............and crop/comp possibilities.... (BTW...I did see Cats on broadway.....and loved it) I did a color balance adjusrment....to Add to Cyan, Green, and blue ... (all oposite of the reds......so IMO......made it a bit more natural). I actually liked the original CB/hue.......but did the correction to help you to explore a few possibilities. The crop is the big one.......I liked Grady's a lot.........but for another option.........I followed Tony's lead........and took off the right and bottom. This helps to see other posibilities and may be something you want to explore. Overall.......I like the image as pesented!
PS...........I slelectively brightened/added contrast to the eyes........another possibility for you.
