    Default Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher

Taken over the weekend at Bukit Rengit here in Malaysia.

This is an early winter migrant and is a rather shy little kingfisher that measures no more than 7 cm (2.5 inches). Under heavy canopy cover that is typical of tropical birds habitat the whole system had to be locked down with mirror up before firing the trigger through the wired remote to lessen all vibrations. Fill flash was used to bring out some details. It was worth the wait through leeches and mosquitos!

Wonderful pose and beautiful kingfisher and a very pleasing composition. If it were mine I would be tempted to remove the green in the upper left hand corner as I find it to be a bit distractiong. Congratulations on a lovely capture under what sounds like an uncomfortable sitauation. Thanks for sharing Phil.

Such a beautiful little bird. If it were mine I would crop a bit tighter and do a bit of work on the BG.

    Perhaps something like this:

Another of my favourite bird. Pretty bird with mind blowing colours. I am yet to see this beauty. The colours and the details are very nicely captured here. The repost from Glenn looks better. Lovely image and worth the effort!!!

I like the original crop better, althought I would try some NR (Noise reduction) other than than, the BG and comp are very nice, the species is great and the colours just crazy! It feel a bit overflashed, just a bit, love it as presented! Congratulaitons!

Thanks all for your comments and Glenn for the re-post. It is a lovely little KF with some awesome colours. I have a different mindset to clear backgrounds as this is seldom the case in the tropics as those who have shot here are well aware of. At times I feel a bit of environment gives the picture better impact as it relates to the habitat of the subject. In any case we strive to showcase the subject the best we can. Thanks again.
