This is a Hand Manipulated Polaroid SX-70. The words and frame have been added digitally all the rest was done in post process about five minutes after it came out of the camera. (Some of you are probably familiar with the process.) Anyway after the print exits the camera the emulsion is allowed to partially harden. A stylus is then used to push the emulsion around until you have the desired result. Sadly Polaroid stopped making its pack films two years ago so this is a dying art form.
This is really well done, Chris! It is sad that Polaroid stopped making their film. I wonder if we could come up with the same type of effect in PS??? Want to take a stab at it?
Julie,
YesI believe it can be done in PS using a combination of layers and a Wacom tablet and pen. You create using the blur tool and vary the pressure as you make the strokes over the image on various layers of different opacities. I'm a real novice at PS so I'm sure there might be a quicker way.
Chris,
A cool effect! Evidently one that a lot of people like, and weren't willing to let fade away. After a bit of Googling, I came up with http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tuto...id-effect.html
which gives a step-by-step process for the "Scraped Polaroid Effect". It's actually a sample chapter from a book, Photoshop Fine Art Effects Cookbook: 62 Easy-to-Follow Recipes for Creating the Classic Styles of Great Artists and Photographers by John Beardsworth ($19.79 at Amazon).
Chris,
Thanks for the research. I have got about ten boxes of Polaroids left in the fridge that are about to die.(the batteries and developer last only so long) So it will be nice to still be able to get a similar effect in PS.
