Who says you can't get a sharp image with a 100-400mm Canon?
Knowing that they are alert, moving right might not have been an option for you. I suggest that as you could have gotten the light direction w/o shadows and better separation on the legs. If I was here, I would make this image well satisfied with the good looking light, glint in the eye and attractive grass at the feet. I like the diagonal slope of where it is standing. Then I would move right and perhaps like you Steve watch him run away. Such are the trials of wildlife photography.
What is really nice about the side-lighting is how it brings out the detail in the legs, chest and face. Those details would not be as prominent in a front-lite image. So each direction has its pluses and minuses.
Hi Steve. I like the way the antelope almost seems to leap off the screen at you. The light is very nice and the exposure is right on. I would agree with Robert's comments above and I too would be very happy with this image.
I agree with Robert. Lot of details in the image. Side lighting brings out the form well. The 100-400 is a good lens. It is sharp. I hope a f4 version is launched soon.
Robert,
I did try moving to the right and managed to get a couple more before he took off.
Steve,
I'm trying to keep a fine line between sharp subject/blurred BG without it looking fake. I'll take your comment as a good sign.
Sabyasachi,
If I had only one lens, it would be my 1-400L. A f4 would be nice too though.

Hey Steve,
The light is super! ......yeah OK.......a total turn would have been great too.........but I like the placement in the frame and the environs. I always catch them in super long grass. Funny thing too.......I like my 100-400 also!
