    Default SB800 Vs SB900

Hello everyone. My name is Angel. I am a new member here as of today. I am ready to buy a flash unit and I would like to hear from those of you with experience with the SB800 & SB900. I am leaning towards the SB900 but would like expert advise of the moderators or someone who has used both. I only know what I have read on the web for reviews. Please advise

    Most gratefull,
    Angel

Is there a reason you are set on the SB900? If you need the specs of the 900 go with the 900 if you dont need the 900 go with the 800.

I know the 900 is larger, heavier and over $100 more expensive($300 vs $429).

I own an SB800 and it works great. Some elect stores were selling SB800s for less than $200 at one point.

According to Thom Hogan's website the SB 800 is being discontinued in the US. Does anyone know about this? I would like to get a second SB 800 to run 2 flashes but this isn't the best time to do so. I would prefer to wait if this is possible. I would appreciate any additional information on this.

I would keep my eyes open for discount prices on the remaining inventory at the larger electronic stores. As I mentioned some were selling SB800s for $150-200.

Most manufacturers dont release details because they want to clear out warehouse inventory before officially discontinuing an item. Canon and Nikon usually give rebates and drop prices months before new models are released and old models are discontinued to clear out old stock.

Yes they are being discontinued. Canoga camera in CA told me this. They do not even stock it anymore.

I have several SB 800's and they are great flashes and I have had no problems with them. Recently got the SB 900 and I really like the way it works. I got it as it seems to work better with my D3 as well as give me the ability to utilize the 200 mm zoom. Also it is far easier to use the remote and wireless features on the SB 900 compare to the 800. If you have the funds I would go with the SB 900. If funds are tight go with the 800 as there may be some great bargains out there if they plan to discontinue the line.
