This is my first posting in this forum! I took this photo almost at sunset and wanted to get feedback specifically about the cropping. This was taken using Canon 40D and EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 IS with the settings - evaluative metering, ISO 400, 1/500 sec, f5.6 @300mm (hand held) in raw format. Used some PS for color adjustment and cropping.
Welcome to BPN! If you have, it would be great to see the entire bird and give him a bit space at the right to 'fly into'. Too bad the sun was not behind you. It looks quite underexposed but you can fix that in your RAW converter. You could have dialed in some positive exposure compensation, maybe in the vicinity of +0.67 or so.
I don't know how much of a crop this already is, but I agree this could be cropped tighter (but also add a bit more room in front). Where you have it now I wish I could see the legs and feet where as cropped tighter I wouldn't mind.
