I photographed this guy in the last rays of the sun. The light had an almost surreal quality, and lasted for less than a minute, making the the bird stand out in stark relief against the dark background of the water. I compensated for the whites in the intense glowing light by reducing the exposure by one third. (Yup, I know the head angle is not perfect:) )

Camera Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark III

    Aperture: 5.6
    Exposure mode: Av
    Exposure compensation: -1/3
    Flash: Off
    Metering mode: Multi-segment

Gorgeous light, but I would tone it down a little bit as it looks over-saturated. The composition works for me very well!

Very striking composition and lighting. I do agree with Maxis in toning it down a tad but well composed with a lovely BG and perch. Many thanks for sharing Chris.

Superb, light is very nice and compo ais great, that perch in excellent, I would as Maxis said, tone down a bit as it does look a little over saturated. Congratulaitons!!
